New Years - 2017 Goals

We are a whole three days into 2017! I hope your first three days of the new year have been spectacular! Today I go back to work after an 11 day vacation. I'm actually ready to go back. But I had lots of time over my break to think about my goals for 2017. I like to think of goals for the year, not resolutions. Resolutions, to me, are those things we all do January 1 and then forget about in a month or so. They are things that we have to jump on right then! Goals, though, are things to work towards. To achieve. To have fun with! In my world, goals > resolutions all day!

So let's get into it!

Goal 1 - Keep up my gym time and eat better!

Yeah, yeah. I know, this is everyone's goal or resolution. But I'm pretty proud of myself because I started on this journey a year ago and I'm still here! I haven't quit yet. You can read about that tomorrow. For this goal, I'm not attaching numbers. I've been doing 4-5 days a week for a few months and before that it was 3-4 days a week. My goal is to keep up the good work and to continue to work on eating better (with the occasional Cookout chicken quesadilla tray).  I also want to try and run a whole 5k.  I've done one before, but I  half walked and half ran it, this time I want to run the whole thing!

Goal 2 - Travel to a new place!

I love traveling. Last year we did our last big trip for a while when we did the Alaska cruise. It was beautiful and not like any other place in the world. It should seriously be on your bucket list if it's not.  Just because we did our big trip last year doesn't mean we can't go somewhere new this year! So my goal for this year is to go somewhere we haven't been before.  It can be in the US or international, just as long as it is new!

Goal 3 - Save more money.

Man. This one. It's a hard one. We did awesome when we were saving for a down payment for the house, but then once you have a house there are all these things to do! And we have a new house so it's not necessarily things to fix, but things to improve what we have! And then sometimes things happen like power surges that fry your TV and you have to buy a new one. We didn't save as much as we wanted last year and we have some big, big money goals coming up. So for 2017 we need to save more.

Goal 4 - Get more involved at our church.

I've avoided this for years. We've attended The Summit Church for at least three years now and we aren't part of any small groups nor do we serve. For a while it was my schedule then it was Aaron's work schedule. Neither of those are excuses anymore. We need to just do it. We go to church, but we aren't really part of it. Part of the reason we haven't really felt pushed is that we have a group of friends so we aren't hurting in the social life department. We are, however, hurting in the Durham social life department.  We have a couple of friends that live out near us, but everyone else is 30 minutes away.  We need to meet some people that live close to us and we need to actually get into a community group.

Goal 5 - Keep this blog going.

For  years I blogged on and off. I would do a ton of blogging for a month or two and then quit. Then I would blog like once a month.  The best was when I kept up my Redomestication of Sarah blog, but that only lasted a year. The Zinn Life was started back in August 2016. Since then, I've blogged weekly, mostly three times a week with a few twice a weeks in there. Since then I've joined a local blogger's group, I've created a Facebook page for my blog, I've added social media buttons so people can find me and  I even have a few followers that don't know me. It's awesome! It's a lot of work on top of a full-time job and working out, but it's such an amazing outlet for me.  My friends and family have been so supportive of it and I love it. So here's to keeping it going in 2017 and beyond!

What about you, what are your goals or resolutions for 2017?

Happy New Years from The Zinn Life!

  2. I think traveling to a new place is such a great idea...I need to add that to my own list. I think experiencing new things is what gives us our best memories. These are all fantastic goals!! Can't wait to hear about all of them throughout the year.

  4. I LOVE reading about people's goals! These are great ones! I have a really good friend who goes to The Summit who is involved in a small group and ministry (kids ministry I think?), and she's also a member of TriFABB! Her name is Traci and her blog is choosingbetter.net. Just in case you want a connection there at Summit...it's a big place :)
